MADE IN KHAYELITSHA CURIO AND GIFTING SHOP

Description of the Business

The business is a curios and corporate gifting shop. It sells hand-made crafts to the tourists, the international market, local corporate companies and individuals. The products are created by crafters from in and around Khayelitsha. These crafts are collected from the different crafters and exhibited in the shop for commercial purposes. The crafts will also be exhibited to corporate companies in the form of electronic catalogue and a hard copy.

Research : Suppliers

My suppliers are the crafters. They manufacture, produce and distribute the products. At this point in time, I am allowing all crafters in and around Khayelitsha to come and exhibit at the shop. At a later stage, I’ll be looking at crafters from out of town e.g. Knysna to exhibit at the shop.

Research : Location

The shop is located at a tourist attraction in Khayelitsha. Currently, the township itself is a tourist attraction and the shop was fortunate to be able to acquire space at the townships biggest tourist attraction, the Look Out Hill. The facility attracts tourists and is therefore the perfect location for a curios shop. Within the facility there is a restaurant, a Cape Tourism office, an exhibition hall, a boardroom and a craft market. All of these services draw a lot of traffic to the facility and therefore to the curios shop as well.
